2025 Awards and Scholarship Gala

Join us October 25th as we Honor and Celebrate “Black Excellence in White Coats” at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center.  This year, we will honor Felicia E. Snead, MD, FASTRO as the 2025 Oswald J. Nickens, MD., Physician of the Year. Dr. Snead’s contributions to the field of radiation oncology and progress in advancing cancer research, education and patient care along with her outstanding career as a radiation oncologist and passion for service has established her as a distinguished healthcare provider, teacher and mentor.

It is our honor to celebrate Lawrence L. Gipson, MD as the 2025 Lifetime Achievement awardee. The legacy that one establishes produces both an immediate and consistent impact as well as a lasting footprint that changes the landscape forever.  Legacy is borne of diligent work, consistent commitment to clinical excellence, integrity & character that are above reproach, unwavering faith and remaining uncompromisingly anchored to values and targeted objectives.

We celebrate our history, longevity and next steps while continuing to raise funds to field and sustain our ongoing community outreach programs. We will also honor Piper Carroll, MD as the 2025 Rising Star. As a founding member of the Coalition of Residents & Fellows of Color (C-ROC), Dr. Carroll’s exemplary work embodies all of the components of Gateway’s mission, vision and core values.  We are proud to recognize and honor her for her energy, effort and commitment to the community. 

Partnerships with like-minded, community-centered individuals are at the heart of our long and storied history of community service and advocacy.  They have consistently demonstrated commitment to our mission, vision and core values— all for the greater good of the individuals, families and communities we serve. We are pleased to honor Sylvia V. Fields, Past President Eden Hall Foundation, Marcia M. Sturdivant, Ph.D., President & CEO, (N.E.E.D.) and Alice Williams, Founder-Executive Director (WEEE) Women Empowered for Entrepreneurial Excellence with the 2025 Champion for Gateway Medical Society “Making a Difference” Award. 

Encouraging physicians of tomorrow is also a big part of Gateway Medical Society’s mission.  During the awards gala, scholarships will be awarded to outstanding under-represented second-year students.
